Creating Account Aliases in R12

Responsibility: System Administrator
Navigation: Application>Flexfield>Key>Aliases

Purpose:
To help end users to speed up or to improve efficiency during data entry.
Sometimes Companies have huge Flexfield structures 7, 8 segments and 1000s of combinations. It takes time to enter journals or becomes tedious trying to memorize the code combinations.
Here is a sample Journal being entered
Line 10 has the combination 01-510-7740-0000-000 which is Vision Operations Miscellaneous Expense.

To memorize this along with 1000 other different combinations becomes humanly impossible. So as a System administrator you can help the end user define an Account alias for this combination and speed up Journal entry.
Let us define an account alias for the above combination and see how it helps enter the journal.
Navigate to the Account Aliases Form
Press F11
Enter  Application/Flexfield Title and Structure in the respective fields as Below

Press Ctrl+F11
You see the various Aliases defined for this structure
Enter Details in the Shorthand Region as Below
Place the Cursor in the bottom part in the Alias Field and Click the Plus sign or Press Ctrl+Down Arrow to enter your alias

Note: The Alias defined is Prefixed with SA (This stands for SadikAdmin)

Save Your  Work.
Switch to GL Responsibility to Test a New Journal Line Using the Alias
Enter The Journal Header
Enter the Journal Line Number and Click the LOV in the Account Field
The account Alias Field pops up

Enter the Alias You Created , Press Tab and Click Ok

The Code Combination is entered for you.

Note even if you enter part of the Alias it will pull up the full code combination.
It is important to follow a proper Convention when creating aliases to improve efficiency and avoiding duplicates.
